Hello, I’ve recently been having major internet issues. I used to have a great gaming router, The D-Link Xtreme N Gaming Router (DGL-4500) Untill it died. We noticed the internet kept cutting off and it would get slower and slower. We purchased countless of Routers after. We are now stuck with some NETGEAR router (Dual Band, Wireless N+, Most expensive). It worked great, Till my mom used her laptop.
Most of the time when she’s on her laptop she’s either on Facebook or streaming her foreign drama/comedy shows. My computer would start reacting a lot slower on any web browser, Online gaming was made almost impossible due to me being kicked out for high pings on games like L4D and TF2. And worst of all, My Xbox 360 Lags incredibly. I can’t even load friends tab on the Home screen that much.
Now my router comes with some feature where it hosts 2 signals. One is 2.4 GHz, and another is 5 GHz. I tried making it so her laptop would connect to the 5GHz signal and I would connect to the 2.4 GHz. Nothing positive came up. If I unplugged my own wireless adapter to my PC, the connection would get slightly better. And I look up and torrent A LOT of things. I’m just so curious as to why my Internet would get such a heavy load from my moms laptop alone. My sisters Mac never causes any problems.
Is there anything I can do to fix this? I can’t just force my mom off her laptop. Is there some kind of settings I should apply to my Xbox 360/ Routers Web page settings?
Thanks for the answers.
Routers Model number is WNDR3700 from NETGEAR. Tried port forwarding, ended up making connections slightly worse.
360 NAT type is Open.
