I was just wondering if there is a browser that supports multi-threaded downloading for webpage content. By multi-threaded downloading I don’t mean the same way that Google Chrome operates using multiple processes for different browser tabs. Multi-threaded downloading in this case pertains to the way that Flashget and Download Accelerator Plus speed up downloads of large files by opening multiple connections with the server hosting the download.
By simple comparison of downloading times between movies streamed off the internet, single-threaded and multi-threaded download managers downloading the same movie, I’ve observed that streaming and single-threaded downloading produce pretty much the same results in terms of download speed an download completion times. However, multi-threaded downloads benefit from increased download speed and thus faster download completion times.
Is there a browser that can do this for webpage content, ie. download several sections of a website at the same time or boosting download speeds for larger web content like online movies by opening multiple connections and loading different portions of the content at the same time?
If yes, which browsers support this? If no, what are the limitations that have kept this type of technology from emerging?
Yes. Google Chrome.
Thank You!.
