I am have a very small Sphynx cattery and because i keep things so small i have never needed a website. I am still very small, but i feel like its time and a website is a great way to share information.
I know almost nothing about websites but i have always been pretty good with computers. I am in the processes of buying a domain name though go daddy, and i am not sure who to use for hosting the website itself. Also go daddy sells packages… a base package “Web Hosting Economy 10 GB Space, Unlimited Bandwidth” and “5-page Website Builder (hosting included)”. I don’t really know how to build a website… is it that difficult to do without a template? And how do i know that the template will even work with what i am trying to do? They don’t go into very much detail!
Let me know what you think!
Thanks
Please include links if you can!
Thanks!
If you are not familiar with websites etc, I would strongly suggest going with a CMS (content Management System) from someone, for first time users (and pros for that matter) I would even suggest using WordPress. WordPress is intended as a blogging tool, but has evolved into more of an all round tool.
There are many providers that offer pre-installed wordpress for you to configure and run as you please, and due to it being open source, there are resources for it all over the internet.
MS Office Live is another option if you don’t have experience with websites. You can redirect/forward your domain that you’re in the process of purchasing and use the templates/design tools to help you create your website. There are also tools such as site traffic reports and contact management to help manage your business.
Hi,
It is generally advisable to keep your domain with one company and your hosting package with another. That way if you have problems with one service, the other will not be affected. Be cautious about “unlimited” offers – often these have some sort of catch involved. It’s important to check your hosts’ terms of service for things such as file limits.
