For over a month now I am unable to connect to my web server. I cannot even connect to my web host’s website because it is on the same server. I cannot pull up any of the websites I have hosted and built or get to my email. This problem is across my entire home network, 3 computers. 2 are running XP and 1 is running Vista. My ISP is Comcast. I can go to my neighbors and connect just fine, they have Comcast as well. I have called Comcast and asked for support, they see no issues but offered to replace the modem, which they did. I have purchased a new Linksys router, which is wired to all PC’s. I have contacted my web host, they see no issues. I am beginning to think I will have to change my web host, which is going to be no fun as that would mean moving several websites. One of the sites I have on this server is www.pailheadweb.com. Any ideas?
One thing that is odd is that about once a week I am able to connect and everything seems fine for about a day. usually this happens Friday or Saturday, but this week it happened on Thursday. By Friday I was unable to connect again.
But I tried to trace and ping. Attempting to ping timed out. The last available host I could see in my traceroute IS the following:
12 po2.car19.dllstx2.theplanet.com (12.96.160.36) 42ms 55ms 59ms
For me that is hop 19. After 19 I just get request timed out. The web host I use is a re-seller for the Planet, and I have a re-seller account through them. If I am in fact being firewalled by the Planet can I request an IP address change from my ISP to get around it? The planet will not talk to me because I do not have an account with them directly.
I have tried all the computers on my network, all with the same result. When attempting to access the sites from any PC other than ones on my network they connect just fine.
If you are on a LAN and the Web server is Running on the same LAN you will not be able to view your Web Server. This has nothing to do with your ISP. I also share the same problem but to my knowledge there is no way around this. To access your web server when you are on the same LAN you must use the Network IP address not the Public one. Inconvenient YES Extremely but I’ve grown used to it.
EDIT:
If you are not on a LAN than this is a different problem please place additional info if you are not on a LAN with the Web server.
You cannot reach your website from your house, but you can from your neighbors? That’s probably not a problem w/ your webhost provider, unless they are firewalling your PC.
do this
from your home PC.
ping www.pailheadweb.com
tracert www.pailheadweb.com (if windows)
traceroute www.pailheadweb.com (if unix).
That will show you where the problem lies..
although it looks like the neccesary allowed protocols are missing to allow traceroute all the way to your host. *udp*
BUT..if you can ping the host then that’s a plus.
your traceroute outta end up at this IP address if in fact they are NOT filtering your IP address.
BTW..this is not an issue of hardware at your customer prem, chances are ‘theplanet’ thought you were trying to hack into your own website or something and is blocking you on purpose..
Give them your IP address and ask them to check their Access-Control-Lists and see if they are in fact blocking your IP from reaching your webserver/LAN etc..
the LAST available host you should see in your traceroute is the following:
12 po2.car19.dllstx2.theplanet.com (12.96.160.36) 35.577 ms 34.832 ms 38.321 ms
Have you tried going on a different computer , say a friends .
I had no trouble bringing up your site . It may be the security settings on your computer , if you run a fire wall that may have something to do with it . try disabling it and try or if you have a spy ware program it may block that site Many programs don’t allow java so again we go back to your security settings ..
clear all your cashe cookies and other Internet file .. I use window washer from web root it works great
try only connecting 1 computer , straight from your modem and see if that works . I doubt its your router but if your computer’s are networked hmmmmmm … I am not sure about vista who knows it may be the cause .. try using one of the xp computers and disable or reduce your level of security temporarily .. if that works you then at least can get a handle on it ..
Oh and by the way .. I like your site.. I do know of some trails in Canada but there north of Ottawa in the province of Quebec .. its a ski resort and they have bike trials there in the summer … all up hill … lol ..
anyway good luck and I will watch for any other comments you might have ..
having read your additional comments I am convinced this is a security setting on either your network or your router but seeing as you have installed a new router that may not be it..
go through your network settings and see if its set to block any sites or certian files cookies ect ect check your firewall settings your site contains java script and it could reject that too ..Maybe some else using one of the computes accidently and unknowingly did something they were not supposed to ..temporaily disable any virus software you have running and try to connect to your site ..
