For the last week or so, our desktop Dell computer has been crashing. It usually takes us to a Blue Screen Of Death that says “IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL” . I’ve done web searches on this message, but nothing seems to come up that can help me. At the bottom of the BSOD, we have this number combination;
0x0000000A (0×00000004 0x0000001C 0×00000001 0x804ED99B).
It seems to be worse when my mom plays Gardens of Time on Facebook. Whenever she gets on the game, our volume mixers disappear and I have to shut the computer down. When I turn the computer back on, it will sometimes send me to another BSOD that says INVALID_WORK_QUEUE (that may not be exactly what it says, hope it’s enough for someone to help me >.< ). I don't have any number codes from this, because it doesn't send us there very often, but if needed I can get them the next time that issues appear.
When the computer does work, it will run very slowly for a while. Then I get a "Generic Host Error" (it might actually be "Generic Host Message" or something like that, I don't know it word-for-word) that says Windows System 32 has encountered an error and needs to close. Right after I click to allow the Windows System 32 to close, the computer crashes again and sends me back to the "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" screen. I have to restart it. After doing this 'so many' times, the computer begins to work properly at the speed it's supposed to, and gives me a message saying that "Microsoft Windows has recovered from a serious error." Normally, it does not crash on it's own, after that, but if the computer must be shut down or restarted (I have to do that to get our mixer devices back on, just logging off doesn't work; we also prefer to turn it off at night, in case of storms or virus's) the problem starts all over again.
Earlier today, the background screen did not load and I got a little message up on the screen that said "Conflict in IP address."
What is this computer issue, how can I fix it, and how can I keep it from happening again? I'd prefer if someone gave me the Idiot Instruction Manual; I love the computer, but I'm not great with terms and I don't know the titles for the different processes and stuff. Thank you in advance >.<
Some of the issues you mentioned are not related to each other (for example IP conflict means exactly that, two computers on the network have the same IP)
I will give you my honest opinion, it sounds like either a piece of hardware is failing on your computer (and it is most likely memory/ram, but possibly the hard drive, video card, or sound card) or you have a virus.
I believe it may be the memory because memory failures will be intermittent and affect all aspects of the computer including booting, running software & games, speed, and hardware.
A bad hard drive has similar symptoms.
A virus will make Windows malfunction badly to the point that it is unusable.
I will be honest with you, this problem may not be for a novice to solve. However, I will try my best to help you.
You can run a program like memtest or memtest86 to test your ram. Most of these program require you to make a CD or floppy disk. Microsoft’s program may automate it for you if you are a beginner: http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp
Run chkdsk on your hard drive. You can do this by (in Windows XP) right clicking on the hard drive in my computer, selecting properties, select the Tools tab, click check now, check both of the options and run start.
